- Course objectives
- Students read and translate authentic Lithuanian texts of different functional styles. The aim of the course is to acquaint students with different variations of Lithuanian (archaic forms, loanwords, dialects, slang) and to develop the competence of analysis of fiction. The reading courses last for two semesters and BA_L_cetb1 is the first part of this cycle. It concentrates on nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century literature.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing this course student should be able to:
- translate and interpret selected texts of Lithuanian fiction by using vocabulary,
- characterise the language of the author,
-analyse the the aspects of the text that are related to the language of the author. - Syllabus
- The texts are selected regarding the students' level of knowledge and interests. The selection is made from the classics of Lithuanian fiction. The texts for the Fall semester 2022 see above.

- Short introductory lecture on the author, reading, interpreting, class discussion, homework reading
- Assessment methods
- Student's work in class is evaluated (max. 10 points). At the end the written exam is held: the student is required to translate a piece of the text, which has been read in class and to answer questions concerning the context of the text and the language of the author (max. 5 points). Minimum amount of points for getting a credit: 12.
