- Course objectives
- The course deals with the cultural history of Transylvania (Transylvania). For centuries, Transylvania has been an imaginary link between Central Europe and the Balkan Peninsula. The lecture presents the history of the territory with an emphasis on its multicultural nature and inter-ethnic relations. The course introduces the ethnic group of Transylvania Saxons, which is the oldest existing German-speaking ethnic group outside Central Europe. The course deals with the history, ethnic identity and group memory of the community. In connection with the concept of philological-area studies, minority literature of Transylvania Saxons and the personality of Eginald Schlattner are introduced. The aim of the course is to deepen both the general historical knowledge of Transylvania territory and to point out the existing ethnic group of Transylvania Saxons and their minority literature.
