Course objectives
The aim of this language course is: Expanding the vocabulary, understanding written and spoken language, exercises in verbal and prepositional conjunctions, complex conjugation and declension, understanding and active use of idioms, and writing more complex essays.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students are able to conversate on topics of adequate comlexity, interpret phrazeologisms, recognise the stylistic value of a text or speech, understands spoken language without difficulty.
Syllabus
  • Topics: Lesson 1: Stereotypes and prejudices; Lesson 2: Emigration and living abroad; Lesson 3: The Slovene dialects, registers of the Slovene language, foreign words in Slovene and the endangerment of languages; Lesson 4: Ecology, extinction of animal and plant species, climate change, modern methods of energy production, and environmental pollution; current topics related to daily events. Grammar: complex grammatical structures, syntax, and phraseology.

Teaching methods
Grammar exercises, lexical exercises (text reading and analysis), conversation exercises (class discussion), translations.
Assessment methods
Regular attendance, homework and home preparation required. Students must hand in a series of essays, seven pages of translation from Croatian to Czech and to pass a final test.

The course is taught annually.
Teacher's information
Students read two contemporary Slovenian literature works (published after 2000) and then present them orally in class before the end of the semester. Students can order the textbook and workbook from their Slovene language lecturer at the beginning of the semester. At the end of the semester, they will take a written and oral exam.
