Course objectives
The course provides students with the knowledge of normative grammar of the Attic Greek dialect of the Classical period to a degree which is necessary for understanding Greek texts. The main aim of the course is an explanation of the normative grammar of the attic dialect in the classical period (in Athens, 5th century BC) to the extent necessary for understanding the original Greek text of the Classical and Hellenistic periods. In the first semester the students will become acquainted with the Greek alphabet and pronunciation, the grammatical system and the basic names and verbal paradigms, allowing orientation in simple, modified texts. They will also learn to use electronic resources to work with Greek texts (grammar, dictionaries, text databases, papyrological databases).

- be familiar with the Greek grammar system;
- determine the grammatical categories of nouns and verbs;
