At the end of the course students will be able:
- to understand different ways in which natural languages express logical negation, from so called negative concord languages (e.g. Slavonic or to some extent Romance languages) to languages with double negation (e.g. Germanic languages);
- to make deductions based on acquired knowledge from formal grammar about packages of problems like negative concord, negative polarity items, interpretation of indefinite noun phrases in the scope of negation and etc;
- to understand interaction of negation with other natural language phenomena like aspect, interpretation of plurality denoting expressions, etc.
