- Course objectives
- The final state examination is to demonstrate the doctoral student’s ability to critically, independently, and on a high specialist level address the specialist questions they are assigned (by means of 3 reports), to react in discussion and argue factually, to use his/her knowledge of literature and other sources in a specialist debate, and to demonstrate the doctoral student’s excellent factual and methodological knowledge.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon successful completion of the exam, the student will have detailed knowledge of the auxiliary historical sciences in the context of the historical sciences and will be able to apply it in his/her own research and study.
- Syllabus
- The exam consists of three parts, namely, a) from the broader scientific perspective, where the doctoral student demonstrates their knowledge of history and the history of administration, b) from the auxiliary historical sciences and c) from his/her own specialization. A discussion is also conducted on two of the three reports prepared by the doctoral student. A condition for a successful outcome in all parts of the exam is the student’s ability to give an overview of the current state of development of the individual disciplines and his/her knowledge of the latest literature.

- Literature contained in the bibliography of the reports prepared by the doctoral student.
- Teaching methods
- In the form of self-study, the student prepares for the topics of reports (i.e. specialist texts with a scientific critical apparatus of at least 20 standard pages per report), which are set by the supervisor in agreement with the chairman of the Programme Board.
- Assessment methods
- The examination committee evaluates the doctoral student’s ability to critically, independently, and on a high specialist level discuss the assigned specialist questions (by means of 2 of the 3 reports), their ability to respond to questions and controversial topics put forward by committee members, their ability to present substantiated arguments, use knowledge of literature and other sources, and also the doctoral student’s factual and methodological knowledge.
