- Course objectives
- Lectures are oriented to the visual art in Europe from its beginnings to the first decades of the 16th century. The main objectives of the course are the following: acquainting students with the basic terms and categories of history of art, as well as with methodology of work of the art historian. An essay has to be written, interpreting a selected oeuvre or set of works.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able:
- use basic terms of art history
- distinguish artistic styles from antiquity to renaissance in the main features
- consider methods of art history - Syllabus
- Subject and methods of history of art
- Basic terminology: architecture, sculpture, painting
- Canon of beauty and aesthetic geometry
- Iconoclasm and iconoduly, religion and art
- Periodization of art and its interpretation on selected examples
