- Course objectives
- An important part of the picture of 'changing Britain' is its growing multi-racial population. This course will consider the problems, possibilities and development of the concept of multiculturalism in Britain in terms of national identity, immigration, integration and race relations. Some ideas of the post-colonial discourse will serve as a starting point for looking at the work of Black and Asian British writers such as Caryl Phillips, Timothy Mo, Farrukh Dhondy, David Dabydeen and Hanif Kureishi. Other materials will include essays, press-cuttings, TV documentaries, and film extracts.
