- Course objectives
- The seminar will concentrate on the role of the hymnus in the Reformation period of the 16. century,the period, in whitch the hymnus was a great phenomenon and the most significant feature of the religious life. The topics examine will be the hymnals of the Bohemian Bretheren and less known Lulecz Bretheren.In addition to the comparison of these two fields we will try to put the czech hymnus in a wider european context, especially to work of Martin Luther and german Protestantism.

- 1.The hymn-text and melody 2. Methods of Hymn research 3. The religious situation in the 1st half of the 16th century 4. The specific of the Bretherenś hymn 5. The changes of the hymns 6. Christmas and Easter Songs 7. The song and imagery- the metaphore and symbol 8. The cathegory of time and space 9. The verse, rhyme and metrum 10. The comparison of the Brethrens and Habrovany hymns with the lutheran hymns
