Course objectives (in Czech)
An introduction into the Czech Structuralism, its roots, philosophical presumptions, main protagonists and distinctive approaches to arts, literature and language. A special importance is dedicated to the history of teleological thought in humanities.
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • Czech Structuralism has an important place in the history of Occidental Aesthetics. It is probably the most important achievement in XXth century humanities stemming from Prague and involving aesthetics, ethnology, linguistics, theatre theory, social psychology and many others branches. Its history in the former Czechoslovakia is very rich and it is associated with many famous scholar forming a real international community (Jakobson, Mukařovský, Bogatyrjev, Mathesius).
