Course objectives
The seminar will take heed of the religiously educational creation, which was meant for czech national reader, especially in 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. It will show its most frequent genres and via them also the way of fostering of national religiousness of this epoch.
Syllabus
  • The religiously educational literature in the baroque period, its roots, relation to the "high" literature, genres and aims which it followed. The seminar will especially devote to these topics: the role of the Bible and its derived texts; the picture of the world in religious encyclopedias; travelbook and pious pilgrimage; young people in the Christian education; catechismes and related texts, their literary treatment; prayers to various occasions; relogious polemics etc.
