- Course objectives
- This course will be devoted to the analysis and interpretation of Čapeks short stories. We will examine the collections: Boží muka, Trapné povídky, Povídky z jedné kapsy, Povídky z druhé kapsy. We will also be interested in the texts which were written in cooperation with Josef Čapek (Krakonošová zahrada, Zářivé hlubiny) and in Čapeks shorter texts, such as: Kniha apokryfů, Bajky a podpovídky.
- Syllabus
- The course will follow the changes and developements of Karel Čapeks texts. We will focus on the themes, styles and structures of his texts. We will also try to create a typology of Čapeks short story. Another intention of the seminar is localize his short stories in wilder context of modern texts. In particular, the texts written by Richard Weiner, Karel Poláček, Jaroslav Durych. We will also confront the reactions of readers and critics alike.
