Course objectives
The course seeks to acquaint the art history student with the basic styles and architects, working in the 20th Century in the Europe an in the U.S.A. The particular attention is dedicated to the functionalist architectural movement in Brno.
Syllabus
  • 1. Theory and History (from Emil Kaufmann to Werner Oechslin). & 2. The Origin of the „Modern mouvement“ in the historical legacy. & 3. Frank Lloyd Wright. & 4. Adolf Loos and the „Raumplan“. & 5. The Expresionism in the architecture in Germany and Holland. & 6. From the „Neue Sachlichkeit“ to the organic architecture. & 7. Le Corbusier. & 8. The Constructivism and De Stijl. & 9. The Funktionalism and the International Style. & 10. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. & 11. Architecture after World War II – the new interest for the form. & 12.
