Course objectives
Course containes of most important phenomenons of ukrainian music culture. Problematic of artificial music is accented, but cours containes of lectures about ukrainian music folklore and popular music too. Seminar part of the course consist in student papers on the ground of accessible ukrainian special literature. Each music phenomenons are exemplyfied with records from lectures personal archive.
Syllabus
  • 1. Ukrainian music folklore (systematic of ukrainian rustic songs; collectors of ukrainian music folklore as the holders of national ideas; phenomenon of cossack music; phenomenon of the cobzars; ukrainian instrumental folklore music; grounds of scientifical ukrainian music folkloristic).
  • 2. Sacred music of Ukraine (churches, which can be found in ukrainian ground and its music specific; development of sacred polyphony; music structure of east-slavonic liturgy; development of the notation; authors of ukrainian sacred music).
  • 3. Music of the 18th century as a common heritage of music culture of Ukraine and Russia (D. Brotnyansky; M. Berezovsky).
  • 4. Development of s.c. ukrainian national music (M. Lysenko; T. Shevchenko and music; ukrainian music school system).
  • 5. Czech-ukrainian music contacts (czech music emigration to Ukraine; ukrainian music emigration to Czechoslovakia).
  • 6. Ukrainian music of 20th century (development of Galitian music culture - V. Barvynskyj, S. Ljudkevyč, M. Kolessa; soviet ukrainian music).
  • 7. Ukrainian popular music.
