Course objectives
Purpose of this course is explain students methods and principles of searching information, give them view into modern trends in Information Retrieval, show them how different searching techniques and algorithms works. Goal is to improve students practice in searching information and clarify them this domain. Despite the trend of simplifying this area and making it as most intuitive as it can be, students and professionals of this field should have deeper knowledge then others.
Syllabus
  • Research activity - theoretical foundations, basic terminology; definition of problem and identification of information need, formulation of research request and query; research strategies and tactics during searching in databases; searching with assistance of information retrieval languages; tools for creating and managing personal bibliographies, research strategies on the internet;valuation of information and sources.
