Course objectives
Courses CJBC520 (autumn 2008) and CJBC521 (spring 2009) are devoted to untraditional, predominantly comparative explication of selected topics on Czech studies. On the one hand seminars are devoted to chapters of history of esthetic reception, which follow the French view of Czech literature, on the other hand they are devoted to interpretations of works by Czech authors, with possible contribution of Romance studies. The aim of this course is:
- to analyze selected works by Vladimír Holan
- to compare the approaches of Czech and French critiques
- to use motivations of Czech and French literary science
- to class works in philosophical and cultural context
Syllabus
  • The topic of this course is defined as temptation of philosophical poetry in works by Vladimír Holan It will be focused on these books of poetry:
  • Smrt umírajícího na sadě, in Vanutí (1932), Sebrané spisy I (1965) : 56 nebo 1 (1999) : 51.
