Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: describe the traditional society and culture of the Balkans cultural area, explain their specifics in relation to the Mediterranean and in comparison with Europe.
Syllabus
  • Beginnings and development of interest in Balkan folk culture, contribution of Czech Slavonists, Balkanists and ethnologists, system of ethnological work in Balkan countries, anthropologic classification of society, terms “traditional“ and “modern“ society and their meanings on Balkan, anthropogeographic aspects of the subsistence sources in Mediterranean area, openness and closeness of the traditional Balkan culture, social and professional stratification, socioprofessional profile of recent traditional culture bearers in Balkan, ancient traditions of city cultures, village – city – city village, traditional culture at the time of national emancipation, selected chapters from traditional culture
