Course objectives
The lecture will be combined with seminar work, especially while analyzing literary texts.
Syllabus
  • The "Hussards" are a less known literary mouvement of the postwar France. The stress will be put on the historical conditions in which the mouvement took birth: situation of the cultural right after 1945, the supremacy of the left directed intellectuals, the place of the "Hussards" to the other mouvements (existentialism, nouveau roman, littérature engagée). Several theoretical problems will be approached: relationship between politics and esthetics, typology of literary mouvements, etc. The course will namely analyse the texts of A. Blondin, R. Nimier, M. Déon, J. Laurent, F. Nourissier, B. Vian, etc.

Teaching methods
Lecture: description of the literary field, explanation and definition of basic notions and their demonstration on concrete texts by concrete authors. Seminar: Application of the acquired theoretical knowledge on authentic texts. In the form of a presentation the students show their capability to connect their theoretical knowledge while working with a concrete text
Assessment methods
Examination - 1. Seminar paper on a novel. 2. Oral exam.
