- Course objectives
- The main aim of the course is to get the students acquainted with present-day problems and tendencies in Czech orthography and to advise them how to proceed in situations that are not covered by the authoritative source (“Pravidla”).
- Syllabus
- The course is focused on present-day problems and tendencies in language norm. The following topics will be dealt with: written vs. spoken language; specific features of written communication; changes in orthography, their history and character; present-day tendencies; orthographic rules for loan-words; capitalization; hyphenation; punctuation. The seminar will also contain analyses of various types of texts and elementary rules of editing present-day texts.

- The course has the form of discussing specific texts in which various language problems and inadequacies are reflected. Practical exercises in correcting texts are a part of the course as well.
