Course objectives
Psychological prose was a prestigious and flourishing genre mainly in the first half of the 20th century. The seminar will focus on Czech psychological prose in its complete development; an emphasis will be placed on the period of 1930s – 1940s. Students will also become familiar with the most important representatives of the world psychological prose and their works. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
define main features of psychological prose;
interpret primary texts of psychological prose;
orientate themselves in secondary literature related to psychological prose;
compare the development of Czech psychological prose to the development of the world psychological prose;
describe the historical framework in which Czech psychological prose developed.
