Course objectives
The aim of this course is to acquaint students of literary fields with the best examples of Russian short stories of the 20th century.
At the end of the course students should be able
to identify the cross impact of Russian literature and World literature and vice-versa;
to work with information about writers' lives, works and about the literary process of the respective period.
Students should be able to analyse selected works of Russian authors including:
the comprehensive analysis;
the preparation of reasons for the interpretation;
an attempt to compare selected author's works

  • Introduction to the Russian short story tradition of the 20th century. Literary analysis of separate stories by Isaac Babel, Mikhail Bulgakov, Mikhail Zoshchenko, Andrei Platonov, Vladimir Nabokov, Emmanuil Kazakevich, Varlam Shalamov, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Georgi Vladimov, Yury Trifonov, Vasily Shukshin, Valentin Rasputin, Chinghiz Aitmatov etc.
