- Course objectives
- The students will be acquainted with selected terms in the field of translation and translation studies and with a brief outline of the development of approaches to translation. We will also focus in the the importance of competence in the target (Czech) language. The focus is on practical seminars (including translation outside of class) in the translation of literary texts, mainly poetry and prose, with the advice of an experienced translator, we will discuss different translation procedures and techniques.
- Syllabus
- Every class has this structure: 1. a brief presentation of selected translation problem, basic terms in the field of translation and translation studies, 2. team work on a Polish text, 3. reading of the translated text with comments.

- Teaching methods
- The course combines lecture, group translation of chosen text and class discussion on this text.

- Credit requirements: regular attendance, participation in class discussions, final translation with comments (min. 4 pages).
