- Course objectives
- Latin literature of the Czech Middle Ages from its beginnings (10th century) to the end of the period (to the times of Iohannes Hus and partly the Hussite movement). The course is divided into two parts. At the end of the second part, students should be able to describe the history of medieval Latin literature in Bohemia in 14th century; to explain the influences of the classical tradition on medieval literature; to identify the connections of the 14th-century Latin literature in Bohemia with the development of the Latin literature in Europe, as well as with the contemporary Old Czech literature; to evaluate the most significant representatives of particular genres of the 14th-century Latin literature in Bohemia; to analyze the language and style of their selected works.

- 1. Medieval Latin literature in Bohemia (definition, content, research on).
- 2. Characteristics of Medieval Latin literature.
- 3. Development of Bohemian Latin literature to the end of the 13th century: Hagiography.
- 4. Historiography
- 5. Sacred lyric (hymns, sequences, tropes, cantilenas).
- 6. "Drama".
- 7. Sermons.
- 8. Diplomatics and rhetoric (charters, epistolography, formularies, dictamina).
