Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide a survey of the development of the Croatian literature since the beginning of the 18th century until the founding of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in 1918. The characteristics of the dominant styles, genres, tendencies and creative methods is based on the contextual analysis of the most significant works of the Croatian realism, modernism and avatgarde. Croatian literature is examined in the context of the domestic as well as European historical and cultural developments. The seminar is based on the intensive home reading and the analysis of relevant texts. On successful completion of the course student will acquire knowledge of several epochs of the development of Croatian literature and he will deepen his skill to analyse and interpret a literary text.

Lectures, home reading, class discussion, oral presentation, essay.
Assessment methods
Prerequisites for granting the credit: regular attendance (maximum of 3 absences during a semester) and thorough home preparation on weekly basis, participation in class discussion, oral presentation, handing in an essay. Final exam has a form of a written test.
