Course objectives
The lecture contains more theory deals e.g. with the subject of syntactic studies, methodology and its main issues. Students will receive more information on various approaches to syntactic analysis, its boundaries and limitations, and will get acquainted with the syntactic terminology – both traditional, following the branch of Czech descriptive syntax (F. Daneš, M. Grepl), but also as it is used in branches orientated to semantic and formal aspects of sentence structures. At the end of the course the students should be able to analyze grammatical feature of sentence structures.
Syllabus
  • The course will focus on development of skills relating to syntactic analysis of a text, from the viewpoints of traditional syntax as well as of syntax based on the theory of valency.
