Course objectives
The course is designed for students in their second semester. The seminar introduces students to the milestones in aesthetic thought in the history of western culture. The courses focusses on reading and interpreting the basic texts in the area. Students are encouraged to work independently to develop the ability to analyse problems and recognise and use basic aesthetic terminology in their written work.

Teaching methods
Reading and interpretation of the basic texts of aesthetics; theoretical interpretation of the history of aesthetics.
Assessment methods
Conditions for successful completion of the course are as follows:

1.During the semester student must submit three essays on specified topics. Each essay is evaluated max. of 100 points thus a student may reach max. of 300 points per semester. The limit required for successful completion of the course is 225 points from the essays. Acceptable is one grammatical mistake per a standard page. Students will deposit their essays into the Homework Vaults till the deadline set by the teacher.

2. During semester students must complete three tests. Each test is evaluated max. of 100 points thus a student may reach max. of 300 points per semester. The lower limit of the course is 225 points from tests. The subject of examination will be given by texts and knowledge of the subject matter discussed in the seminar lessons. Dates of tests will be announced in advance.
