- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide students with a complex view of Greek phonological system, declension and conjugation. At the end of this course students should be able to analyse the verbal categories; explain the development of nominal and verbal categories; compare the numerals with Latin, Czech, German and English equivalents.
- Syllabus
- 1.Nouns of the 1st and 2nd declension.
- 2. Adjectives of the 1st and 2nd declension.
- 3/4. Nouns and adjectives of the 3rd declension.
- 5. A survey of adjectives and their comparison.
- 6. A survey of pronouns - the pronominal adverbs. A survey of numerals (etymological comparison with Latin, Czech, German and English equivalents).
- 7. Verbal categories; types of verbal conjugation.
- 8. The thematic verbs.
- 9. The athematic verbs.
- 10. The nominal forms of verbs.
- 11/12. Word classes in Ancient Greek; analysis of the verbal categories (person, number, tense, mood, voice).
