Course objectives
The aim of the course is to familiarize undergraduates with the basic terminology in the field of auxiliary sciences of history and archival science in the English language (in the European setting), which will facilitate the transition to the active use of foreign-language literature and online sources. In addition to the basic concepts from various auxiliary sciences, there are also selective probes into codicology and archival practice. Emphasis is placed on understanding the correct use of nomenclature and on the ability to work independently with sources.
Syllabus
  • • Introduction to the course;
  • • Searching sources, dictionaries and reference books;
  • • Basic concepts for the auxiliary sciences of history and archival theory;
  • • Description of medieval manuscripts;
  • • Basic concepts for archival practice
Teaching methods
Teaching takes place in the form of interactive presentations and videos, active cooperation between the teacher and students in the lesson. There is particular use of online sources with the support of the e-learning system (ELF). Students are required to submit homework electronically on a regular basis.
Assessment methods
Active participation in lessons, homework exercises, a final exam in the form of a written test.
