- Course objectives
- The course offers a systematic overview of the basic phenomena of Modern Greek phonology, morphology and syntax. The main aim of the course is to make students familiar with basic grammatical phenomena of Modern Greek language. Students must be able to describe these and apply these when speaking and writing in Modern Greek. Another aim of the course is to enable students to understand short Modern Greek texts and to translate texts from Modern Greek into Czech and simple texts from Czech into Modern Greek.
- Syllabus
- Grammar: Basics of Modern Greek Language, lessons 10-19: personal pronouns, Czech dative as expressed in Modern Greek, present tense passive of 1st and 2nd conjugation verbs, the imperfect, adjectives and substantives with an additional syllable in the plural, the conjunctive, imperative perfective and imperfective.
- Orthography practice.
- Translation of sentences and short coherent texts into Modern Greek.

- Teaching methods
- The course has a form of a seminar and lectures. Homework is required during semester – students prepare assigned grammatical exercises and translations from Modern Greek into Czech and vice versa, short essays on given topics.
- Assessment methods
- Requirements for obtaining the credit: preparation of assignments within the deadline, passing a mid-term test (min. 50%) and a credit written test (min. 70%) and at least 70% participation in lessons. Final written exam lasts 90 minutes and contains a dictate, translation from Czech to Greek and vice versa, filling in the correct form of various parts of speech in sentences and interpretation of grammatical phenomena.
