- Course objectives
- The course deals with the history of Yugoslavia and Bulgaria since the outbreak of WWI until the breakup of the Yugoslav federation and the transition of Bulgaria to democracy. On successful completion of the course students will acquire a complex overview of the historical development of Yugoslavia and Bulgaria in the 20th century as well as the arguing skill in these matters.

- 1. World War I at the Balkans 2. Establishment of Yugoslavia and its development until 1929 3. Bulgaria: afterwar crises and coups; 4. Yugoslavia 1929–1941; 5. Bulgaria in the 1930s; 6. World War II in Yugoslavia; 7. Bulgaria in the War and the afterwar development; 8. Communist onset in Yugoslavia and the development until 1948; 9. Bulgaria in the time of Vasil Kolarov and Todor Živkov; 10. Specific Yugoslav "way to socialism" and the Non-Aligned Movement; 11. Transition of Bulgaria to democracy; 12. The Breakup of Yugoslavia.
