Course objectives
The course offers a comprehensive lecture on life, work and „second life“ of Karel Vorovka, one of the most important Czech philosophers in the first decades of the 20th century. The lectures will focus on his intellectual development from mathematics to noetics, metaphysics and history of philosophy, in relation to Czech and world philosophy and culture. The lectures will be completed by reading and interpretation of Vorovka’s philosophical texts. The aim of the course is to enable the students to learn more about philosophical thought in Czech philosophy, by the means of a case study of life and work of Karel Vorovka. After the course, the students will be able to interpret philosophical work of Vorovka in the context of Czech and World philosophy.

  • An overview of Vorovka’s life and work in philosophical and social-political context; inspirations, scientific publications, organization work, participation in philosophical debates, contacts abroad, reception of his work; lecture and reading of his texts Skepse a gnóse, Polemos, Dvě studie o Masarykově filosofii, Americká filosofie.
