Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to acquire basic archival terminology in English. Emphasis will be placed on the ability to communicate about selected topics concerning archival theory and practice.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
explain the basic archival terms in English
describe in English the main archival activities
describe in English the Czech archival network
present in English the features of a selected archive
communicate at a basic level with foreign researchers
Syllabus
  • 1. Basic archival concepts;
  • 2.–3. individual archival activities;
  • 4.¬5. the system of archives in the Czech Republic;
  • 6. digital archiving;
  • 7. –11. presentation of projects;
  • 12. contact with foreign researchers in archival practice

Teaching methods
A seminar based on active participation from students, conversations about terminology, presentation of projects, and reading text.
Assessment methods
Credit will be awarded on the basis of attendance and the presentation of a project.
