Course objectives
The aim of the course is to improve the ability of the students to communicate professional issues in academic English and their comprehension of both spoken and written academic English.
Student by working in the class will:
- understand a scholarly paper, monograph and lecture;
- discuss scholarly issues in English;
- translate an English drama using a dictionary;
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course student will be able to:
- understand a scholarly paper, monograph and lecture;
- discuss scholarly issues in English;
- translate an English drama using a dictionary;
- prove knowledge of basic theatrologic terms in English.
Syllabus
  • The types of activities periodically repeated during the term:
  • - reading and analysis of a scholarly text (article, monograph, etc.)
  • - academic discussion (whole group, split group, individual)
  • - listening to a theatre practitioner, historian, theoretician, etc.
  • - reading and translating a play
  • - vocabulary exercises
  • In spring 2018 the course will focus on scenography and stage design.

Assessment methods
Classwork and homework (3 credits); for 5 credits (exam) it is necessary to pass a final examination, i.e. reading a short English text dealing with a particular theatrological topic (using dictionary) followed by discussion.
