Course objectives
The course will introduce the film as an object preserved in audiovisual archives. During the course there will be presented topics about its preservation, restoration and making it accessible. Within individual lectures there will be considered problems of basic characteristics of film materials, technology of its production, sings of its aging and possibilities of its long-term preservation. Connected with preservation there will be presented iniciatives leading to creation of film collections and fil archives. We need to consider film as multiplex medium, we will focus on the existence of multiple versions of the same film and what we can call as an original. With using specific case studie we will introduce possible approaches to film restoration.
