Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge of French (A1-A2 CEFR).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography);
- read simple texts and understand its nature (e.g. menu or invitations);
- write simple letters about her/himself;
- communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.

  • 5. Describing a place (Unité 9).
  • 6. Time orientation; European Union.
  • 7. Expressing past time (Unité 10).
  • 8. Expressing intension and quantity; Francophone countries.
  • 9. Comparison (Unité 11).
  • 10. Expressing agreement and disagreement; Fashion.
  • 11. Future, wishes (Unité 12).
  • 12. Describing a person; Music.
  • GRAMMAR: conjugation of irregular verbs (battre, boire, conduire, courir, devoir, dire, dormir, écrire, payer, prendre, lire, mettre, partir, perdre, recevoir, tenir, vivre, voir), reflexive verbs, imperative, compound past (auxiliary verb être), imparfait, future simple tense (future simple), subjonctif (introduction), contracted article (au, du), pronouns (indirect object, en, y, indefinite, demonstrative), ordinal numbers, negation, prepositions (space, time, countries).

Teaching methods
All the basic methods of CLT programme (Communicative Language TEaching)are used: individual, pair, group activities (conversation, practice, drill). Audition. Homework extended to e-learning self-study.
Assessment methods
Final exam:
I. Written test (grammar, vocabulary, translation), min. 70%.
II. Oral part will examine the ability to express him/herself independently and to interact in a simple way.
Submission of six written translations and three essays before the end of semester is obligatory (see Study materials in ELF).
Attendance at 14 seminars minimum during the semester is obligatory (seminars take place twice a week).
