- Course objectives
- The course aims to introduce the color in cinema as a multi-layered phenomenon that can be viewed from different perspectives. During the lectures we will follow the development of color film systems in the general context of the history of cinema. We will not only introduce their specific aesthetic, but we will also focus on the technical nature of the medium of color film and its materiality. We will introduce the specifics of preservation, restoration and presentation of color film materials. On the example of selected texts, we will introduce possible approaches to how we can think about color in cinema.
- Learning outcomes
- After the finishing this course, students will be able to orientate themselves in the development of colour in cinema. They will be acquainted with current approaches to the study of color in cinema and will have ability to think critically about selected theoretical issues. At the same time, they will be familiar with the basics of archival preservation and presentation of color film materials.
