- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to introduce the evolution of certain segments of the culture in the long term, including their economic dimension, and to introduce students to different ways of thought and policies to cultural activities throughout the centuries and today. The first part of the lectures will take a general form, and various examples from history will illustrate the various possible forms of financing cultural institutions and ways of promoting cultural goods. Second block of lectures will be devoted to different segments of culture and their historical development. The final section connects the historical lessons to the current situation and current trends in specific examples.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course the student will be able to: - Defining and enumerate different types of price discrimination and explaining its role in the field of culture, especially in the Opera - Explain the social and economic context of the long-term shift of cultural activities into the public sector - Analyze the causes of tourism growth and its impacts on visited destinations - Explain and justify the specifics of the art market - to interpret the changes in heritage preservation in the context of societal and economic change
