- Course objectives
- This course focuses on the literary history of the Low Countries. In the first part (Nizozemská literatura 20. století I) the focus was on Dutch-language literature from the "Tachtigers" to the "Vijftigers" and the work of the so-called Big Three, in "Dějiny nizozemské a vlámské literatury" half of the "Big Six". This follow-up course (Nizozemská literatura 20. století II) first focuses on the oeuvre of the other canonized authors, namely Louis Paul Boon, Hugo Claus and Hella S. Haasse. Subsequently, a picture is given of the literature from the 1960s till now by means of capita selecta, e.g. post-colonial literature, post-modernism and migrant literature. The aim of this course is to gain insight into post-war developments in Dutch literature, which are placed in a cultural-historical context. Students are introduced to the work of selected Dutch and Flemish authors and analyze poems, prose fragments and a novel.
