- Course objectives
- The course is an opportunity to realize that more than 50 million European citizens speak a minoritized language. The course poses the question: what does it mean to live in a community speaking a minoritized language? Students with the teacher will find some answers.
- Learning outcomes
- By the end of the course, the student will have become accustomed to the idea that speaking a minorized language is normal. If the student belongs to a linguistic minority, he will have deepened his awareness and will have known other minority experiences. All students will know the European linguistic landscape and the main political and social factors needed to interpret the situation of a linguistic minority in Europe.

- language status, power and prestige
- language, state, nation
- attitudes on minorized languages and groups

- economic and social power of languages
- cultural life in a minorized language
- some cases of language minorities in Europe

- Teaching methods
- The teacher belongs to the Friulian linguistic minority. After a brief methodological introduction, the participants will carry out meetings with members of linguistic minorities. In the meantime, each student will carry out a personal research on a European linguistic minority and will prepare a final paper inspired by the structure proposed by the teacher. Some papers will be presented in the classroom. The composition of the class will have a decisive influence on the subjects covered. The final paper must contain almost 14.400 characters with spaces.
- Assessment methods
- The student will receive the final credit on the basis of the paper he has written. The teacher will present a structure to which the student can be inspired, but works with different structures will also be accepted, if the changes are justified.
