- Course objectives
- It is an introductory course to the study of sign languages from a linguistic point of view. The students make themselves familiar with the basic terminology of the field. They learn the inventory of Czech Sign Language phonemes (partly in contrast with Czech phonemes), the method of the minimal pairs, and the principle of double articulation. The phenomena in question will be illustrated on CSL data (videos).
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, the student can analyze a CSL unit and see its parameters. He/she understands the role of a phoneme in natural language and he/she is able to describe it.
