Course objectives
The course develops the knowledge acquired by students during the course Ethnic Processes and Europe I. It makes the students familiar with with the ethno-genesis of ethnic communities (Slavic) in Europe.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to describe the ethnogenesis of Slavic nations. They should be able to analyze ethnic issues and ethnic conflicts (the Balkans).
Syllabus
  • 1. Basic literature (encyclopedias, dictionaries, compendia).
  • 2. Ethnogenesis of Western Slavs (Czechs, Polish, Sorbs, Polabians).
  • 3. Ethnogenesis of Eastern Slavs (Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians).
  • 4. Ethnogenesis of Southern Slavs (Slovenes, Croatians, Serbs, Macedonians, Montenegrins).
  • 5. Ethnographic regionalisation and differentiation.
  • 6. Typical demonstrations of traditional culture.
