Course objectives
This course extends the students' knowledge about literary terms and theories. The manual Het leven van teksten. Een inleiding in de literatuurwetenschap by Kiene Brillenburg Wurth en Ann Rigney (ed.) is studied in a synthetic and comprehensible way and serves as a basis for the classes. Every class deals with a specific topic, from an orientational delimitation of the field of research to literature and literary theory as a colonial and postcolonial discourse (see overview). The students acquire profound knowledge of the (Dutch/Flemish) literary field and the most important approaches in literary theory and are provided with methodological frameworks they can use for further research (e.g. the Master thesis). They are encouraged to reflect upon problems in contemporary literary research and to specialize in a field of their preference.
Learning outcomes
Students will broaden their knowledge of literary-language terms and will learn the knowledge of literary beliefs Nl and B.
