Course objectives
Survey of French literature of the 19th century, up to 1914. Principal periods, authors and works.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- to identify and summarize important features of the 19th century French literature
- identify the main aesthetic features of this period in the texts
Syllabus
  • 1. French romanticism. 2. From ralism to naturalism and to experimental novel. 3. Poetry in the second half of the 19th century. 4. Prose and poetry in the beginning of the 20th century.

Teaching methods
Lecture: description of the literary field, explanation and definition of basic notions and their demonstration on concrete texts by concrete authors. Seminar: Application of the acquired theoretical knowledge on authentic texts. In the form of a presentation the students show their capability to connect their theoretical knowledge while working with a concrete text.
Assessment methods
Exam - written analysis of a selected literary text.

General note: Pro zápis do předmětu nutno úspěšně absolvovat zápočet z FJ1A012. Přednost u zápisu mají posluchači romanistických oborů.
