- Course objectives
- Student of this course will become familiar with the bases of general museology, the theory and practice of exhibition presentations and exhibition critiques, as well as the specifics of museum presentations in archives. In the first part of the course they will attempt to organize an exhibition project at the Moravian Provincial Archive.
- Learning outcomes
- A basic knowledge of museology and the theory and practice of exhibition presentation, practical experience organizing an exhibition project in an archive, with a description and interpretation of the archive material in the form of entries in an exhibition catalogue.
- Syllabus
- 1) Monument and cultural institutions as the basis for the protection, administration and presentation of cultural heritage. 2) The bases of museology – the object of interest, methods, terminology, systems, applied science in museology, the role of museums in presenting and protecting cultural heritage. 3) (Museum) Presentations in monument institutions – theory of presentation, typology and categorization of exhibitions, information levels, methods of interpretation. 4) (Museum) Presentations in monument institutions – planning, realization, approaches, additional resources. 5) Communication with visitors, cultural-educational activities, accompanying programmes. 6) Museum-exhibition critique. 7) Specific aspects of museum presentations in the archives: exhibitions as part of the running of the archive and in the archive rooms. 8) Specific aspects of museum presentations in the archives: the need to protect the archival material being exhibited. 9) The Count of Collalto's family in Medieval Italy. 10) The Count of Collato's family in Italy in the 15th and early 16th century. 11) Developing an idea for an exhibition and selecting the exhibits. 12-13) Creating an exhibition scenario.
