Course objectives
Through theoretical seminars and practically oriented excursions, the students will get an idea of possible employment in various types of editorial and editorial activities (publishing houses, journalism, cultural institutions...). After completing the course, learners should understand contemporary editorial and editorial operations and be better prepared for employment in cultural and literary practice.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will:
– theoretically familiarized with selected problematic aspects of editorial and editorial practice through presentations by external guests and reading assigned literature in study support;
– thanks to completed excursions to selected literary, media and cultural institutions, know the specifics of their work;
– to have practical experience with the operation of selected institutions thanks to the practical tasks and the final project;
- to better orient oneself in the possibilities of further career direction.
Syllabus
  • Introductory information about work in the seminar;
  • familiarization with current publishing practice;
  • selected problems of contemporary translation;
  • excursion to a selected publishing house;
  • possibilities of application in the Czech media and their current status;
  • excursion to the selected news media;
  • other options for editorial activities;
  • excursion to a selected cultural institution;
  • libraries, catalogs and rules;
  • excursion to a selected library;
  • joint activity with foreign colleagues;
  • final presentation of projects.
