- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to perform a thorough analysis of three to four selected scholarly texts from current scholarly journals in German studies. The analysis focuses less on content-related aspects of the texts, and more on their structural and linguistic features. Last but not least, there is also the objective to get to know the newer approaches to texts in German studies based on current scholarly texts.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course, students will be capable of:
- structured work with more demanding, contemporary texts from the field of German Studies,
- including these texts into the context of the journal and its (thematic) numbers,
- putting the analyzed texts in relation to the background in literary/cultural studies which they are based on,
- using scholarly texts for their own (diploma) projects. - Syllabus
- 1. Reading short texts from scholarly journals.
- 2. Structural and linguistic features of scholarly texts in German Studies.
- 3. Analysis of selected scholarly texts in terms of their content, method, structure and language.
- Journals: International Archive of Social History of German Literature (IASL), Journal of Intercultural German Studies (ZiG), Journal of German Studies, TRANS, etc. The texts are grouped thematically.
