- Course objectives
- The course presents an introductory overview of syntax as a linguistic discipline, including its basic concepts and terminology. Enhancing the knowledge about sentence constructions in German is focussed on, for application in practical language use as well as in text analyses.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completition of the course, the students will be able to: identify and describe the syntactic elements of a sentence; charakterise the relations and functions of individual phrases in a sentence as well as their functions; distinguish the types of sentences and be aware of their snytactic specificities; analyse German texts in widespread use with focus on the syntax.

- syntax in context of other linguistic disciplines; basic topics, concepts, terminology; syntactic elements, phrases, sentences, more complex syntactic contructions; sentence types in German; syntyctic analysis of selected texts
