- Course objectives
- Lectures are oriented to the visual art in Europe and North America in the modern times. The main objectives of the course are the following: acquainting students with the basic terms and categories of history of art, as well as with methodology of work of the art historian. An essay has to be written, interpreting a selected oeuvre or set of works. There is also an excursion around art and architecture of Brno.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able:
- distinguish the main artistic styles and movements since the 16th century
- explain the merits of the main artistic innovations - Syllabus
- Chronological history of art in modern times, selected problems of interpretation of art, e.g. Picture and Word (emblematics, iconology...), Birth and death of author, Visual representation.

- Oral exam in the end. Only those who will submit their essays and will manage their written tests will be permitted to the oral exam. 1) Seminar essay, at least 5.400 characters, submit through Selected essays will be presented during lectures. 2) Test of knowledge (immediately before the oral exam) 3) Oral exam Questions will be specified before, during the semester.
