Course objectives
This language course is a direct continuation of Practical French I, building on the acquired bases in order to progress towards the B2 level of the CEFR. Emphasis on vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, listening, speaking.
Learning outcomes
Output level of language according to CEFR: B1-B2.
At the end of this course, students should be able to: understand longer texts of various types; understand longer audio and audiovisual materials which include regional or sociocultural varieties of standard spoken French; use complex grammatical structures and showcase a good command of vocabulary on given topics; interact with a relative degree of spontaneity; present a basic argumentation in written and spoken form; write simple, well-structured narrative and argumentative texts.
Syllabus
  • • Vocabulary topics : emotions and senses, the professional sphere, politics, economy, ecology, media and information technology
  • • Grammar topics : subjunctive and infinitive mode after expressions of obligation, emotion and uncertainty; past tenses in detail (passé composé, imparfait, plus-que-parfait) ; past conditional mode and expression of past hypothetical situations; future past tense ; use of logical connectors and linking words (text structure, reason and effect, opposition, purpose, condition)

Teaching methods
Seminar-style teaching with active participation and focus on student interaction. Partial flipped classroom technique: self-study of grammar and vocabulary and self-training of reading and listening skills.
Assessment methods
Continuous evaluation (formative assessment): active participation (maximum 2 absences allowed), self-study of vocabulary and grammar, regular writing exercises with mandatory self-correction, portfolio with various tasks. Final evaluation (summative assessment): oral and written exam.
