- Course objectives
- The goals of the lecture are to understand the application of selected statistical methods in the evaluation of data in life sciences. The content of the lecture includes evaluation of experimantal results and methods, errors in data and calculations, significance testing for quantitative and qualitative data, and the use of regression and correlation analysis. The applications are focused especially on (bio)chemistry, microbiology and biotechnology.
- Syllabus
- Application of statistical methods in evaluation of experimental data in (bio)chemistry, biotechnology and microbiology.
- Statistical characteristics, types of distribution.
- Confidence intervals, null and aletrnative hypotheses, testing the significance of data.
- Elimination of systematic errors in parallel data. The use of Poisson distribution for the testing of microbiological data.
- Testing qualitative data, efficiency determination of bioactive substances.
- Linear regression, a simple linearity test.
- Correlation analysis.
- Linear regression in the calibration of methods and analysis error calculation.
- Impact of result variability on calculation of the determination limit.
- Non-linear regression and its application in bioprocess models.
- Testing linear and non-linear models.
- Impact of variability of kinetic data on determination of parameters of some processes in biochemistry, physiology and biotechnology.
- Variability in evaluation of the cell growth and metabolite pruduction.
